ALPUJARRA GRANADINA - ORGIVA - GRANADA
On the slope of the Alpujarra Granadina.
Our privileged environment has situated us right at the entrance of La Alpujarra. Its primitive name was Al-buxarrat, due to the first Arabian colonizers which means White Mountains.
| Whitewashed by the white hills of Sierra Nevada, it strengthens to the sunny beaches of the Mediterranean sea, encompassing lots of towns therein. The Alpujarras pertain to two different provinces which are the Alpujarra Granadina and the Almeriense. One of its divisions is Alpujarra Alta, home to the towns settled within the boundaries of the Natural Park of Sierra Nevada where we are, and the other is Alpujarra Baja which encompasses those towns settled on the slopes of the mountain and stretching to the coast. Its highly diverse climate range between the cold weather of the mountain towns and the tropical weather of the coast zone. Its orography consists mainly of mountains, yet most of its land is not arable where we can find lithops and take advantage of the slopes with ‘paratas’ (walls made of stone which hold back the water and the lands for crops), featuring scrubland and forests. Their slops stretch from Orgiva to the banks of the Andarax, in the province of Almería, surrounded by three main rivers which pour out their waters in the Mediterranean sea.
Guadalfeo, also called Río Grande of Orgiva, Almería River or Andarax River and the Adra River. |
